The Massachusetts Senate has denied its law a few years ago, authorizing the Governor Deval Patrick to appoint a successor to Ted Kennedy. At the time of the old law, the governor was a republican (remember the Mormon candidate Mitt Romney in the GOP primary?) And the Democrats feared a coup. Patrick must now choose who to assign a place and a coveted seat pretty sure to gain in a year when you vote in the middle term. The last name is Michael Dukakis, former governor and former presidential candidate defeated by Bush sr.
The importance of the Law lies in the possibility for the Democrats to pass some important legislation without any Republican votes. The case of health care reform is the first. Of course, first have to agree with each other.
